Breakfast at Tsukiji fish market early in the morning has become my SOP whenever I’m in Tokyo!
Sushi Dai, Sushi Daiwa and Sushi Bun are the three famous sushi joints that everyone knows about and queues at. For me, been there, done that. Time to explore the other sushi shops in the market!

At the top of my list is Umai Sushikan (うまい鮨勘)!
Tsukiji 5-2-1, Area 4

We took the counter seats, the best place to watch the chef in action.
P.S. Don’t you think the cup is so cute? My friend wanted to ask the chef whether we can buy it, haha. I’m still not sure whether she’s kidding or dead serious.

I had the sushi set: tuna maki, 10 pieces of nigiri sushi, tamago and a looooong slice of anago!
What an absolute steal at ¥2850 (approximately $47)!

Chawanmushi and miso soup are included too! Very value for money.

Huge, soft, fluffy tamago <3

I substituted tako for a piece of aburi tuna with garlic. Gorgeous.

Another substitution: special-yet-fear-factor-worthy uzura natto sushi with raw quail egg yolk~

Fatty tuna.

Sweet raw shrimp (snow crab in the background).

Scallop, always big and juicy!

THE highlight: anago!!! Love this so much!

Looks like I’ll be trying this next time I go to Tsukiji! Been to Sushi Dai like 3 times already hahaha
Ooh, I’ve been to this one. Had the 800 yen set and the queue was shorter, though it still had a queue!
Now I’m torn between Sushi Dai and Umai. Gonna be my virgin Tsukiji experience! I’ll flip a coin.
