Though I live right behind Old Airport Road Hawker Centre, I’ve been there less than 5 times for a proper meal.
Besides Lao Ban and QQ Soya Bean, I’ve only tried one of the Western and Japanese stalls, haha. So I decided to be more adventurous these days.
Just the other day, my colleague who flew the airplane I was working in raved on and on and on about Toa Payoh Rojak, so much so that I had to promise him I’ll try it one day.
And so, one day came and I went half-heartedly to queue up at the famous stall. Guess what, I was the last customer before it sold out for the day, bingo!
$5 bought me a decent portion of fried fritters (you tiao), bean curd (tau pok), cucumber, turnip and pineapple mixed with a very spicy prawn paste and peanuts.
I think this is not bad, quite nice. You know, nice in a meaningless “I don’t know how to describe the taste, it’s just nice” kind of way.
Don’t understand the rave, but I won’t say no to another serving.

LOL!
Hi Kaelyn!
You might want to try the Special Pork Cutlet with Curry rice from one of the stalls there. I can’t remember the exact stall name but it is Jackson something something. It is situated directly behind the Hougang Famous Wanton Mee stall.
You might also want to try the Char Kway Teow from Dong Ji (#01-138). They only open during the day time and his CKT is like a hybrid of the Singapore and Penang version.
Cheers,
Pamie =)
I have to say I am with your pilot friend on this one….love this rojak…but it’s very sweet and I tend to like sweet and spicy with loads of nuts.
