Mr Bean

Am I the last to discover Mr Bean soya ice cream or what?!

So beany-licious and the mild sweetness is right up my alley. Not to mention it’s so healthy (only 9.50g of sugar and 4.79g of fats per serving!) that I can happily eat this every other day for dessert daily mandatory calcium intake, haha.

Now, can anyone tell me where to get the green tea version?? The website says “only available in exclusive outlets”, but didn’t state where, zzz.

Look at the feast we had at Shin Yuu!!

$36.90++ for ala carte lunch buffet; great value for money if you whack the fresh sashimi moriawase like we did. I had multiple helpings of the unagi nigiri sushi, so soft that it basically just melted in the mouth, yumsss. Other mouthworthy noteworthy eats include the grilled saba fish (which remained moist and juicy even after turning cold due to prolonged neglect), salmon head (with fabulously tender cheeks!!), shishamo, chawanmushi with roe, raw salmon makimono with crispy skin etc etc~~

Cafe Melba

Pasta plans at La Barca were shelved when we spotted Cafe Melba, a cool glasshouse bistro which looked so inviting that we were lured in. Food was basic and simple in a good way, prices reasonable, service kinda blur but forgivable; I believe this is going to our new hangout place since it’s virtually in my own backyard : )

From left: free range eggs benedict, smoked salmon, lemon hollandaise, roasted cherry vine tomatoes ($18++); full melba cooked breakfast, scrambled eggs, pork sausage, home-cured bacon, baked beans, sautéed mushrooms, home-made toast ($22++).

The Living Cafe

Introducing healthy eating at The Living Cafe today!

Found out the existence of this place after reading an article on raw food cuisine in Singapore. Fret not, carnivores; it’s not solely vegetarian. And truth be told, I was more impressed with the non-veg stuff anyway, especially the oh-so-colourful raw salmon pizza. Guess I’ll still stick to LivinGreens and Original Sin for my veggie fix!

From top, clockwise: raw salmon pizza ($21); baked aubergine pie with scallops ($16); raw zucchini lasagna ($12); wasabi grilled fish burger ($16).

Bay Sushi

Guess what, I’ve found my 2nd to-go-when-the-craving-hits casual sushi joint!

Itacho is my 1st, when I want boring-but-comforting nigiri sushi and aburi stuff; Bay Sushi, I’ll go when I have a hankering for interesting, lots-of-flavours-in-one-bite unconventional maki rolls. Oh ya, I said “casual” cuz Bay Sushi is not some atas place where you can only afford to dine at every other month; prices here are extremely reasonable for a restaurant with such good ambience (we were given a private room on my first visit) and generous portions!

Top left, clockwise: chawanmushi ($4.60++); ginseng seafood salad ($12++); eel house roll ($15++); lion king roll ($15++); gold dragon roll ($15++).

Just went back for dinner yesterday and I still enjoyed the food very much (gotta admit that I was starving so that might make me biased heh)! This time, we sat at the bar counter (items on the conveyor belt are fake, FYI) where we could watch the sushi chefs from Korea (all that yabbering in Korean gave them away lol) in action. I was amused when our plate of red caterpillar roll arrived with a hand drawn heart-shaped love; pretty sure that that’s not the norm, thanks chef, we appreciate the personal touch!

From top left, down: red caterpillar roll ($12++) with love thrown in, haha; eel house roll ($15++); angry salmon level 17 roll ($15++);

sarnie [ˈsɑːnɪ] noun (UK, informal) a sandwich

Yes, another post on sandwiches today! Sorry for being borrrrrr-ring, but that’s one of our favourite no-fail comfort foods these days (and showing no sign of abatement).

Found Sarnies in the CBD area, a small cafe serving “freshly prepared gourmet sandwiches, soups, salads and homemade bakery treats”. Liking this place a lot for its larger than life (read: HUGE) sarnies, though I like the equivalent matching high prices (FYI, additional $1.50 for rye bread) slightly less, haha.

Top: smoked salmon, creamy dill sauce replaced by hummus (my own creation!), red onions, capers, mixed lettuce, rye ($15.40)

Bottom: smoked turkey, roma tomatoes, cheddar cheese, romaine lettuce, rye ($14.40)
