Big Fish Bistro has a new owner, and a total makeover. It’s no longer “Big Fish Seafood Grill”, no longer a fishbone (the old logo; no points for guessing the new one, haha). Now decked in Mediterranean white and blue, the restaurant is bright and modern, without a hint of what it used to be.
Let’s start with the drinks first! Berry boat mocktail was an instant refreshing thirst quencher, ideal for the blazing hot days we’ve been experiencing lately. For smoothies, I prefer manic mango (this really rocks!) over blue banana, cuz I’m a hard-core lassi fan~
Besides the prosaic big country breakfast, pancakes and french toast blah blah blah that all brunch cafes like to serve these days, Big Fish’s weekend brunch menu featured a delish distant cousin of eggs ben — crab cake eggs florentine! Nicely poached eggs, solid real crab-meat-packed crab cake, we only wished that the sourdough was of a higher quality.
We found a couple of gems in the ala carte menu. While the rich crustacean flavor was spot on, the lobster bisque was a little too thin for my liking as I like to root for the “thick hearty soup” team. The mains were the highlight; seared crusted tuna was an uncomplicated beauty, moist and rare in the middle, nutty and smoky on the outside; pan fried black cod was super fresh and soft, no need fancy cooking to make this a winner when you’ve got fish of such a high quality.
The rule is to keep it simple, and Big Fish scores for that!
