Can you believe Joel Robuchon is also entering the konbini ice cream market? Tried the orange chocolate bar and woah, it’s surprisingly good and not sweet at all! But for a chocolate ice cream, it’s too expensive so #haagendazsfanforever

Even though Tokyo has endless dessert choices, I’m missing Frankie & Jo’s plant-based ice cream very much. Happy to report that I found a good substitute in Kippy’s Coco-Cream キッピーズ ココクリーム! They do vegan coconut based ice cream and because I kid myself that it’s healthy, I ended up with triple scoops of double dark chocolate, matcha and mocha. Now that Tokyo is heating up, I need to come here more often! #excuses

Tip #101 for LDR: Facetime your partner and eat ice cream together at the same time. It’s one of the small things we do and it’s so much fun. While K finished a whole tub of Haagen Dazs green tea (proud of him!!), I decided on something healthier. For 80 calories, this Sunao chocolate soy ice cream was very satisfying.

Today’s agenda is to explore the University District and also check out the first Amazon physical bookstore! But first, ice cream at Sweet Alchemy Ice Creamery because it is in the area and I’ve been stalking them on Instagram prior to my trip. The vegan chocolate coffee flavour is good but unfortunately icy. I miss Frankie & Jo’s!!

Pierre Marcolini needs no introduction. His chocolates were top on my to-try list 7 years ago when I travelled to Brussels, Belgium and they didn’t disappoint. And then 3 years ago was when K and I first tried his chocolate (duh!) soft serve and we liked it more than Godiva’s and Lindt’s. This time, having had Le Chocolat De H’s and Cacao Sampaka’s in the same week, I have to be honest and say that this is no longer the “best” hmm… Let’s see what other chocolatey softies come my way next!

I know it’s early days (only Day 18!) but I think I’ve found my firm #1 favourite gelateria in Tokyo. Buon’Amore ブオン・アモーレ supposedly churns “healthier” gelato with low/no sugar and what got to me were the beautifully smooth texture and deep intense flavours. I sampled a few (moringa matcha is a funky one) and settled on pistachio and dark chocolate. This is one of those times when I just want to keep on eating and eating. So sooo good.

If a chocolate soft serve is good and creamy and ticks all the boxes of what a soft serve should be, words are superfluous.

P.S. the chef behind Le Chocolat De H is the owner of Mont St Clair, a famous patisserie in Tokyo so this is legit.

No doubt The Tiramisu Hero has very cute decor but I guess it’s more style than substance? Tiramisu in a jar has pretty packaging but so-so taste. Mudpie is literally a frozen block of chocolate ice cream. Don’t get me wrong, they were not crappy but neither did they give that “wow, so nice!” feeling…
