I’ve pretty much tried all desserts from Pierre Hermé (yes I’m a fangirl!) and the #1 absolute top favourite is Dépaysé, a giant intense matcha macaron with azuki compote and citrusy lime. It’s a seasonal special so every time we see this, we don’t even think of sharing. One each, period.

Even though Tokyo has endless dessert choices, I’m missing Frankie & Jo’s plant-based ice cream very much. Happy to report that I found a good substitute in Kippy’s Coco-Cream キッピーズ ココクリーム! They do vegan coconut based ice cream and because I kid myself that it’s healthy, I ended up with triple scoops of double dark chocolate, matcha and mocha. Now that Tokyo is heating up, I need to come here more often! #excuses

This Tsujiri 辻利 is not the same Tsujiri in Singapore. A long established teahouse in Uji, it has opened a take-away outlet at the newest chi-chi mall in Tokyo — Ginza Six. An exclusive to said mall, the “extra rich” matcha soft serve is expectedly good but I’m one of those annoying customers who want a stronger dose of matcha ha.

You wouldn’t expect a middle eastern nuts/spices shop selling matcha gelato but it is what it is at Far East Bazaar ヒカリエ. The unmistakably earthy matcha flavour is very intense (the staff even warned me in advance) but I don’t like the icy and “crumbly” texture. Next.

I have a terrible sweet tooth but I try to find “healthier” alternatives most of the time. Like dairy-free ice cream, or agave-sweetened desserts. They make me feel better about inhaling sugar haha. Finally found something not so sinful at Gelateria Tie-An. They do soy versions and apparently the bestseller has edamame in it. Too funky for me though; I’ll stick to my usual dark chocolate, matcha (can skip the one here), and kinako kuromitsu. The kinako kuro is very good! More intense and much better than Pariya’s.

I don’t understand why Magie Du Chocolat マジ・ドゥ・ショコラ is so popular. There’s constantly a stream of people queuing and because I was sitting right next to the cashier, I could see how much those people were spending. Let’s just say they didn’t hesitate to fork out yen for chocolates. But I was not impressed with their 35% & 75% mixed chocolate soft serve, and the signature baked chocolate soufflé cakes (matcha so sweet omg). Average and very forgettable.

On all my previous vacation trips to Japan, I pretty much overdosed on konbini ice cream every night (ask K, he knows how much desserts I can eat). Now that I’m living in Tokyo and not on a holiday, I figure I need to exercise some self-control. So the plan is to indulge only once a week; I hope I can do it!
Because I only had one meal today and it was too clean, I succumbed to this Hiver matcha chocolate stick when I saw it at a random Family Mart. The packaging looks like this. I love the super crunchy nutty shell and the flavour reminds me of Matchaya’s matcha choco drink! For the record, for konbini matcha chocolate ice cream, I like Royce’s best.
