Even though Tokyo has endless dessert choices, I’m missing Frankie & Jo’s plant-based ice cream very much. Happy to report that I found a good substitute in Kippy’s Coco-Cream キッピーズ ココクリーム! They do vegan coconut based ice cream and because I kid myself that it’s healthy, I ended up with triple scoops of double dark chocolate, matcha and mocha. Now that Tokyo is heating up, I need to come here more often! #excuses

Tip #101 for LDR: Facetime your partner and eat ice cream together at the same time. It’s one of the small things we do and it’s so much fun. While K finished a whole tub of Haagen Dazs green tea (proud of him!!), I decided on something healthier. For 80 calories, this Sunao chocolate soy ice cream was very satisfying.

Gosh, 3 times within a week; I told you Frankie & Jo’s is my favourite! This time it’s chocolate sauce over chocolate date ice cream, and moo goo (in-house activated charcoal salted caramel) over salty caramel ash ice cream. I love this place so much that I told K that we should open one in Singapore haha.

Back at Frankie & Jo’s because there is one more flavour I want to try — tahini chocolate! It’s quite interesting; sweet, nutty and salty at the same time with lashings of sesame fudge throughout. The staff recommended adding the vegan chocolate sauce and I’m game for it of course #yestomorechocolate

The rule is universal — take anything fatty/creamy, fry it, and you will get a party in the mouth. I’m thinking of uni and avocado, mmm. The fried avocado strips at Cafe Flora are gloriously crispy and buttery, so bad yet so good. This place is well-known among vegetarians and I can see why. The menu is creative and goes beyond salads which anyone can toss together at home. I also tried the sesame crusted sunchoke-daikon croquettes with coconut lentils and grilled rapini. See what I mean? Don’t worry, I had to google “rapini” too so you are not alone!

This is it. I’ve found my favourite ice cream shop in the universe!!

Frankie & Jo’s does plant-based (interesting choice of words and great branding!) ice cream so think handmade sprouted cashew nut milk, coconut milk, organic cane/date sugar, gluten-free waffle cones etc. Most of the dairy-free ice cream in the market lacks a creamy texture and/or intense flavour but not at F&J. My choices of salty caramel ash with activated charcoal, chocolate date, and nettle pistachio (an April seasonal flavour) are amazingly smooth and rich. I don’t think anyone will miss the milk at all!

Ok, I can totally foresee myself lunching at Cityshop Delicatessen at least once a week. I love the fresh salads, the bold flavours, the gorgeous colours! Plus they go beyond the usual salad greens; think roasted pumpkin and brussel sprouts, fennel and kale with hijiki seaweed — basically salads not commonly found in Japan. Wish there’s more such delis in Tokyo to take my money ha.
